Notes for Herbert Ray Slade

In 1900 Herbert age 27 and his wife 19 year old Blanche lives with his mother Catherine in Sidney, NY. Also living in the household is 13 year old Daisy, Herbert's sister. A t the time of Blanche's father's death (George Pine) in 1906 they are living in Scranton, Pa. according to his obituary. By 1910 Herbert and his wife now live in Otsego County, Oneonta, Ward 2, and have two sons Herbert R. age 8 and Clifford age 4. And by 1920 they are still in Oneonta and have added twins Catherine and Evelyn who are 8 years old at that time. When the twins were born they came home from the hospital with the names of Ester and Ruth but these were changed. And finally by 1930 the twins are 18 years old. Catherine is now spelled Katheryn, and a servant Eulalie Leach age 56 resides in the household as well as Louis Papastrat who is a roomer born in Greece about 1887.

H.R. Slade Dies After Long Illness
Following a seven year illness resulting from a shock, Herbert R. Slade 2 Ford, died at 12:15 yesterday afternoon at his home. Dr. Harold C. Buckingham, First Methodist minister, will officiate and the Elks ritual will be conducted at the funeral Saturday at 2:30 from the Lewis Funeral Home, 51 Dietz. Interment will be in the Plains cemetery vault and burial will be in Mt. Upton, where a son Ronald, was buried 12 years ago.
Mr. Slade was born in the Town of Unadilla July 7, 1871 the son of Frederick A. and Catherine Bates Slade.
He amrried Miss Blanche Pine at Sidney December 27, 1899. After living for a time in scranton, Pa., they moved to Oneonta 34 years ago. He was a salesman, and a member of the First Methodist Church and Elks lodge. His ability and integrity and his patience during his long illness won him the esteem of many. Surviving are Mrs. Slade, Mrs. Lee E. Westcott 18 Roosevelt, and Mrs. Donald E. Estabrook 2 Ford, a son Sgt. Clifford Slade Camp Ellis, Illinois, two grandsons Thomas Westcott and Robert Estabrook, a brother Alfred M. Slade of Scranton, Pa., a sister Mrs. Daisy Broderick Rochester, and three nieces Mrs. Dorothy Sokol and Mrs. Ernest Reynolds Rochester, and Mrs. Pearl Walling New York.
